The last weekend saw 2 players, both in 11th spots on their respective start dates, perform big time to give themselves top 10 finishes. Both Jim Tallakson (Sunday, Argusville) and Leroy Turner (Saturday, Geneseo) were involved in the final hand of each tournament.
22 players showed in Geneseo - hampered by freezing rain - and 40 players showed in Argusville for a $150 buy-in tournament. Leroy Turner, Daniel Hostrup, Paul Lugert, and Jerry Gutzmer chopped up Geneseo while Jim Tallakson, Dana Williams, Brian Briedenbach, Denise Johnson, and Aaron Johnson finished strong for the year, and those 5 are in the top 100 with Jim, Dana, and Denise each in the top 10.
3 weeks off until the 2013 Season starts in earnest. The 2012 Championship will be the weekend of March 9th, at the Bowler in Fargo. We look forward to another amazing year, trying to better the Tour, and give players a fun atmosphere in which to play some poker.
Until then, Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas! Be safe and enjoy the New Year!
Vu Truong and Chris Koon took down the two big prizes at this weekend's Wahpeton Vets tournament. Vu won the tournament based on chip count to Chris Koon, as agreed upon. John Reimer, Denise Johnson, Eric Kassa, Melissa Meyer, and Don Denning rounded out the rest of the cashes. 52 players showed up with 21 re-entries total. Congratulations to Vu for breaking the same streak Denise broke 2 weeks ago at the M&J - an 0-20 streak in this year's DPT points broken with a win.
Big, big, BIG congratulations to Denise Johnson who, and she'll love me pointing this out, got off the 0-20 goose egg in the 2012 season for points in a big way ... By winning the 111 person M&J Fall Tournament. John Streese vaulted into 2nd place with a 2nd place finish, while Thane Fliginger(4th), Nathan Kiefert(6th), Nathan Larson(7th), and Chad Graffis (9th), all put moved well up in the points. Very good showing as well for the ladies, in addition to Denise, as Melissa Meyer(5th), Shatara Roehrich(10th), and Andrea Lange (13th) finished well.
Jason Kramer and Dallas Dewitt chopped the Black Friday Special this past Friday. Dallas was able to double up twice just in time before the players were forced to chop due to time constraints. 74 players showed, and Matt Hamilton (3rd) was able to get a stranglehold on the top spot in end of the year Leaderboard. Joel Smith (4th), Sam Johnson (5th), and Thane Fliginger (8th) were all able to improve greatly their position in the points.
This Sunday, the M & J is hosting their fall tournament version of essentially is the Dead Money Open. $150+$10 buy-in on Sunday, starting at 1, with 2 hours late registration. Satellites will run on Saturday from NOON until 1 pm. $35 satellites with the top 2 out of a table of 10 receiving the $150 buy-in. Reminder, that the satellite seats CAN BE transferred or sold to others. So don't hesitate to play more than one or play that one even if you cannot play on Sunday if you know you can make arrangements with someone who is able to play.
Poker Brat Classic at the Windbreak this past weekend attracted 74 people for the $210 buy-in, with 38 of those doing the $90 rebuy/add-on. In the end, the prize pool was virtually identical to the 3 day, flighted format. After 8 hours of play on Sunday, Adam Laskey had 986,000 of the 5.5M in play with 31 players set to start Sunday at NOON. The next closest in chips was under 400K. Adam was able to cruise to the final table, but fortunes can change in a hurry, and Adam pushed for 550k with blinds at 20k/40k from the SB with an Ace, only to have Ken Ihringer wake up with a bigger Ace. Ken went bust against Kim Rasmussen to set up a heads up match between Kim (4.2M in chips) and Josh Hall (1.35M). With blinds at 25k/50k, there was still plenty of time for Josh. But in the end, Kim could not be stopped and his AK bested Josh's KJ on the final hand.
The upcoming Harwood Hideout tournament will kick off the packed fall league season. It appears we will have 34 tournaments in the 2012 Dakota Poker Tour season, as we now have booked each weekend until right before Christmas. The Southgate drew 96 players for its $200 buy-in 2 weeks ago, and at the end it was Brian Bridenbach, Eric Thompson, Robert Anderson, and Steve Johnson taking home just shy of $3,000 each. We also have a very close race at the top for the points leader - which will start the freeroll in January with 30,000 in chips - between Dennis Pfau, Matt Hamilton, and Pete Bushey. They are separated by less than a 100 points, with still many within striking distance but still 216 points behind in 4th place is John Streese.
